Did you read the right thing?
Did we say low GRE Scores – Nothing to worry?
Do you need to reread it?
Oh no! Relax. Stay Cool. We know there’s a considerable hype about GRE scores playing a crucial role in securing admission into top universities in the USA and a few other countries, but……….
There’s a BUT that you need to focus on instead of having sleepless nights.
The moment you start gathering information about the process for getting enrolled into a Graduate School or a business school in the USA you come across the abbreviation GRE, which is ‘The Graduate Record Examination’ a standardized test required for pursuing masters in USA.
Adding to the stress factor is the priority for high scores in GRE being the pre-requisite in most of the top universities. Without wasting any time, you must’ve taken the plunge, gone out of your way, took the coaching in one of the premier institutes, burnt the midnight oil and when you saw the results?????????????
The world must’ve come crashing down. You must’ve had countless unanswered questions bothering you. Where did you lack? Why did you score less? What more you could’ve done?
But the most disturbing question would’ve been,
“Won’t I get admission into a university in the US where I can pursue my desired course?”
And the answer is,” You will, you surely will.”
The next query from your side will be, “How?”
Without wasting much time let’s analyse as to how can you be assured that you can get admission with the low scores that you’ve got.
Do some research
To make sure that you can go ahead with your applications for a master’s degree with the low scores that you’ve got you need to do some research.
Research on what aspects?
You need to check with
- Universities which accept low GRE scores
- Schools which consider admission without GRE in case your scores are pretty low
- Is this applicable to the programs that you’re looking for?
- In case you don’t want to retake the test, do you need to reconsider the major that you choose?
- If you don’t want to compromise on the specialization, then how to zero down on the universities where you’ll get admission with the score that you’ve got?
You must be aware that Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning, are each scored on a scale from 130-170 in one-point increments wherein the lowest possible score on each of those parts is 130. Analytical Writing(AW) is scored from 0-6 in half-point increments. So on an average, the 50th percentile, or “average GRE score” has to be nearly 303, or we can say 151 for verbal and 152.5 for math. And the AWA average should be 3.5.
In case you were not able to meet these requirements, you don’t have to lose hope. The good news is that you’ll get universities where you can get admission even if you have scored less than 300.You also have choices where you can get enrolled without GRE in case you have scored far less than 300.
